LIRA | Minister Sam Engola has begun fulfilling his pledge to support Catholic priests with vehicles, handing over a brand-new Toyota Harrier to Rev. Fr. Chris Oceng of Lira Cathedral Parish.

The vehicle, registration number UE 235FF, was handed over during a ceremony attended by the Bishop of Lira Diocese, Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok, and other church leaders.
Engola made the pledge on August 6, 2026, during the ordination of 12 priests, when he promised to provide vehicles to three priests from his clan to help them move efficiently while carrying out pastoral duties.
The Minister said the donation was driven by his personal commitment to supporting the Church and its mission, adding that it was not influenced by religious differences.
He explained that priests regularly travel long distances to conduct pastoral visits, celebrate Mass, reach Christians and provide spiritual guidance, making reliable transport an important part of their ministry.
Engola further revealed that the latest donation brings to eight the number of vehicles he has donated to religious institutions, describing the contributions as part of his personal effort to support God's work.
He said removing transport-related challenges would allow priests to concentrate more on serving Christians instead of spending valuable time and resources dealing with mobility problems.
Rev. Fr. Oceng expressed appreciation to Engola for honouring his commitment, saying the vehicle would strengthen his ability to reach Christians and undertake pastoral activities across the parish.
Bishop Wanok also thanked the Minister for the gesture, noting that improved mobility for clergy would contribute to more effective pastoral outreach and spiritual services within Lira Diocese.
The handover represents the first step in Engola's three-priest pledge, with two more clergy members expected to benefit from the commitment.
