Don’t Eat Your Neighbour’s Ripe Mangoes’: Aloysius Matovu’s Warning to Men at Moses Matovu Vigil

Kampala, Uganda | Veteran Ugandan actor Aloysius Matovu Joy has used the vigil of fallen Afrigo Band singer Moses Matovu to deliver a strong warning to men against engaging in relationships with other people’s partners, saying such conduct can have serious and even deadly consequences.
Speaking during the vigil held in memory of the veteran musician, Aloysius used a metaphor of ripe mangoes to caution men who are tempted to pursue women in relationships or marriages.
“Do not eat good-looking ripe mangoes belonging to your neighbours,” Aloysius said, according to remarks shared at the vigil. He argued that people invest time and effort into nurturing what they have, and may strongly object when others attempt to take advantage of it.
His comments came amid discussions surrounding the circumstances of Moses Matovu’s death. Reports circulating about the incident have alleged that the musician was confronted in Kibuli in connection with a relationship involving a woman, although details surrounding the incident remain subject to official investigation and verification.
Aloysius said the tragedy should serve as a lesson to men who engage in relationships that can provoke conflict with other individuals.
He urged men to exercise restraint and respect boundaries, warning that actions taken in pursuit of relationships can sometimes have consequences far beyond what is initially anticipated.
The remarks added an emotional and cautionary dimension to the vigil, where friends, colleagues, fans and members of the entertainment fraternity gathered to mourn Moses Matovu, one of the veteran voices associated with Uganda’s legendary Afrigo Band.
Moses Matovu’s death has continued to attract widespread attention across Uganda, with calls for authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding his death and ensure that any person found responsible faces the law.
