Maracha District  |  Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara has directed the arrest of the headteacher of Koyi Primary School in Maracha District following concerns over poor attendance of learners at the school.

Barugahara issued the directive on Sunday after making an unannounced inspection of the school during his ongoing monitoring tour of West Nile.

The minister reportedly found a large number of pupils absent from school after they had been sent home shortly after completing their end-of-term examinations. He questioned the school administration over the decision and convened a meeting with staff to establish the circumstances surrounding the early dismissal of learners.

Following the engagement, Barugahara ordered that the headteacher be arrested as investigations into the matter continue.

The inspection forms part of the minister’s wider campaign to monitor public service delivery and expose alleged corruption, misuse of government resources and negligence in public institutions, in line with President Yoweri Museveni’s directive.

During the same tour, Barugahara inspected Alu Bridge in Awiziru Sub-county, a project reportedly valued at Shs1.9 billion. He also visited Curube Health Centre III, where he assessed service delivery and interacted with both patients and health workers.

The minister’s West Nile tour is expected to continue with inspections of government projects and service delivery facilities across the region.
