Anita Among Thanks Museveni for ‘Mercy’ as She Prepares to Resume Duties

KAMPALA - Former Speaker of Parliament and Bukedea District Woman MP, Hon. Annet Anita Among, has expressed relief and gratitude following President Yoweri Museveni’s decision to order her release from house arrest.
Among thanked President Museveni and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for their conduct during the period she remained under restriction, saying she is now ready to return to her duties as the Bukedea Woman Member of Parliament.
In a statement following the President’s directive, Among attributed her freedom and continued life to God, while describing Museveni’s decision as an act of mercy.
“I thank the Almighty God for the gift of life and freedom, and President Museveni for his parental grace and decision to grant me mercy.”
Among’s statement comes a day after President Museveni reportedly directed that she be released from house arrest, bringing an end to the restrictions that had been placed on her.
She said she was prepared to resume her responsibilities as an elected representative of the people of Bukedea, signalling her return to active public duties.
The development has attracted significant attention within Uganda’s political circles, given Among’s previous position as Speaker and her continued role in Parliament as Bukedea Woman MP.
