Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, is set to intensify his provincial farewell tour with visits to four dioceses in Northern Uganda over the next two weekends, as he prepares to conclude his tenure as the ninth Archbishop of the Church of Uganda.
The Archbishop is scheduled to begin the Northern Uganda leg of his farewell programme on Friday, September 18, 2026, with a visit to West Lango Diocese, where he is expected to engage church leaders and Christians ahead of the main farewell service.
The service will take place on Saturday, September 19, at St Peter’s Cathedral, Aduku, in Kwania District. The Diocese of West Lango is headed by Rt. Rev. Julius Ceasar Nina.
After the West Lango engagement, Archbishop Kaziimba will proceed to Lango Diocese, headquartered in Lira City. He will bid farewell to Christians in the diocese on Sunday, September 20, during a service at All Saints Cathedral, Boroboro.
Lango Diocese is led by Rt. Rev. Prof. Alfred Olwa, who is expected to join other clergy and Christians in receiving the Archbishop for the farewell programme.
The tour will continue into the following weekend when Archbishop Kaziimba travels to Kitgum Diocese. He is expected to arrive on Friday, September 25, before leading the farewell service the following day, Saturday, September 26, at All Saints Cathedral, Kitgum.
The Diocese of Kitgum is under the leadership of Rt. Rev. Wilson Kitara.
On the same day, the Archbishop will proceed to the Diocese of Northern Uganda, with the final farewell gathering scheduled for Sunday, September 27, at the Gulu High School Playground in Gulu City.
The Diocese of Northern Uganda is led by Rt. Rev. Godfrey Loum.
The four-diocese programme is part of Archbishop Kaziimba’s wider farewell engagements across the Church of Uganda, giving him an opportunity to visit dioceses, interact with bishops, clergy and Christians, and formally conclude his provincial engagements before retirement.
Archbishop Kaziimba has so far covered 18 of the Church of Uganda’s 39 dioceses under the farewell tour. The programme is expected to continue with additional diocesan visits as the province prepares for a transition in its top leadership.
His farewell tour comes as the Church of Uganda looks ahead to the next phase of its leadership following the conclusion of his tenure as Archbishop.
The upcoming visits in West Lango, Lango, Kitgum and Northern Uganda are therefore expected to attract large gatherings of Christians, clergy, church leaders and other stakeholders, particularly in the dioceses where the Archbishop will hold public farewell services.
